On Left sidebar - Select HS Library
You will be directed to the BRRHS Library Webpage, where you can view a list of all the Subscription Databases. Click on the link to the database that you want to search and enter the User ID and Password in the login page.

Historical New York Times: There are several ways to search this database for information on the 1920s:
Click on Timeline or Topics tabs and then click on the Roaring 20s link.You will be provided with a Subtopic List, which when clicked will deliver a list of articles on this broad topic.

If your topic of interest is not listed, you may want to click on the Search tab, use the drop-down list to specify the decade, and enter a keyword into the search box. Make sure that you have clicked the boxes that designate the type of article you are searching for.

Both of the search methods described above will provide you with articles published during the 1920s.

To obtain articles published during any time period, use the Search Tab, type your keyword into the seach box, and do not specify a decade in the drop-down box. Your results will be displayed in categories by date; click on the date icon to view articles.

EBSCO Host: Click on the Ebsco database that you wish to search (Student Research Center). Enter your keyword; make sure that the Full Text Articles Only box is checked.

Sirs Decades You can click on the 1920s icon at the top of the page, and view an Introduction article. Links to the left of the article will provide information on these topics; also scroll down to explore the items under the Primary Sources and Web Site tabs.

ABC-CLIO US History & Government: Enter your search term in the search box and check the areas you wish to search (History or Government). Click on the link under "Search Results" to view the articles retrieved. You can filter your results by checking the appropriate box on the left side of the page (narratives, images, maps, events, etc.) and clicking the "Filter My Results" button at the bottom of the list. You will find the MLA citation format at the end of the article.

American National Biographies: Provides information on deceased Americans only. You can type a person's name in the Quick Search box, or browse by alphabetical listing of a name (use the "Browse" tab at the top of the page). You can also use the Advanced Search option (click on the "Search" tab at the top of the page) to search by additional criteria and characteristics (e.g., ethnicity, occupation, birth date).
Citation information is included at the end of the article, but you need to insure that it is in the proper MLA format.

Biography Resource Center: Provides information on living and deceased persons of both American and International heritage.
You can search using the quick "Search by Name" box, but make sure that you click the appropriate button below to define the approach of the search (i.e., Name Contains, or Start of Last Name). You can also Browse categories or use the Advanced Search to combine terms (i.e., use Boolean Operators).

Facts on File: Select an appropriate database after loggin in (American History Online, American Women's History). Type your search term(s) in the search box. When you review your results, notice that there are several tabs (located above the results) that provide categories for the information retrieved. You may select the type of information you are interested in by category (biographies, primary sources, etc.)
At the end of the article under "Citation Information" you will find the elements that you will need to format an MLA citation.

The Library Catalog, Spectrum, can be accessed from the Desktop screen of your computer. Click on the link for "Catalog Tutorial" in the left sidebar of this page to see a guide to using Spectrum.


The library catalog automatically opens to the Easy Search Screen. If you type fifties, sixties, seventies, etc., you will retrieve a large number of books covering people and events of the time period. Other keywords i.e., roaring, Harlem Renaissance, jazz, etc. will also provide you with an extensive listing of books. Scroll through the list to find the most exact listing for your topic. When searching for people, remember to use their last name as the subject. Biographies are shelved alphabetically by the person’s last name in the biography section of the library, along the wall near the Writing Center.
